The NZIM Management Model

INTRODUCING THE NZIM MANAGEMENT MODEL

The New Zealand Institute of Management has the overall aim of, “building management and leadership capability in New Zealand”.

NZIM does this through provision of a range of value adding services,

·         NZIM Management Model

·         NZIM Professional Qualifications Framework

·         NZIM Mentoring Programme

·         NZIM Learning Programmes

·         NZIM Web Site

·         NZIM Member Events

·         NZIM Research Programme

·         Management Magazine

The NZIM Management Model integrates local and international management best practice.

The model gradually evolves as new research becomes available.

The NZIM Management Model defines four key attributes of Management,

1.      Capable Management

2.      Capable Leadership

3.      Capable Organisation

4.      Capable Governance

The NZIM Management Model,

·         Enables managers to easily identify their development needs

·        Supports NZIM Mentors in their role of helping other managers build their

        capability

·         Links managers development needs with NZIM Learning Programmes

·         Acts as a foundation for the NZIM Professional Grading Structure

The model was sourced from the research of a wide range of international leaders in management thinking including, Jim Collins, independent researcher and author “Good to Great”, John Kotter, Konosuke Matsushita Professor of Leadership at Harvard Business School & David Ulrich, Professor of Business Administration at the University of Michigan.

There are six sub-headings making up the Capable Manager attribute of the NZIM Management Model with each acting as an ongoing target area for development for a manager no matter what level.

NZIM Management Model Key Attribute 2: Capable Leadership

This second attribute of the NZIM Management Model is broken down into three sub-areas.

The Capable Management and Capable Leadership Attributes are conceived as being complementary and the opposite ends of the same spectrum.

They are both involved in the general concept of “Management” but the mix varies depending on the level of management role.

NZIM Management Model Key Attribute 3: Capable Organisation

This third attribute of the NZIM Management Model is broken down into three sub-groups.

NZIM Management Model Key Attribute 4: Capable Governance

NZIM Management Model Key Attribute 4: Capable Governance

The fourth and final attribute in the NZIM Management Model is made up of five sub-headings.   The manager involved in Governance will be on a Board or Trust and these sub-headings again act as a guide and targets for development.  The person also needs to have a reasonable level of skill and knowledge in the three previous attributes of the Management Model,
