Microsoft Project is increasingly used as a standard project management tool for project time and cost management. Project Managers at all levels need to have knowledge and skills in the use of Microsoft Project to gain the maximum benefit from this powerful software tool in order effectively plan and control projects.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This programme will benefit those who are new to, or currently involved in, managing projects, but have no formal training in Microsoft Project. Novice project managers would benefit from undertaking the project management Fundamentals course before embarking on this programme. Basic Microsoft Windows skills are required for attending this course.
LEARNING OUTCOMES

- Have an overview of the software toolkit
- Know how Microsoft Project communicates with you (and tips on how to communicate effectively with it)
- How to create the calendar and resource pool
- Understand menu systems, toolbars, help and menus
- Planning the Project using Microsoft Project
- Develop an effective project structure
- Define and schedule tasks
- Define task inter-dependencies
- Use the different types of task links
- Using the GANTT Chart
- Identify the critical path
- Understand the symbols and what they mean
- Format the graphics and using the display options
- Resourcing (Assigning People and Costs)
- Assign staff resources to tasks
- Assign task costs (direct and indirect)
- Understand resource optimisation
- Monitoring and Controlling the Project Plan
- Understand base-lining to create a reference
- Know how to monitor and update actual progress
- How to update the Project Plan
- Review the impact of actual progress
- Reschedule work remaining and taking corrective action
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
The programme is highly practical and participatory, involving hands-on application of the Microsoft Project software on a PC. Every participant is provided with the software, which is supplied for the duration of the workshop. The course is facilitated by one of our facilitators using examples and case studies demonstrated on the software. Participants must have access to a laptop.
