 United Group Limited is a broad based infrastructure services company engaged in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, engineering and business process outsourcing services for blue-chip companies and governments throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia, North America and parts of Europe and the Middle East.
In September 2008 NZIM Northern partnered with United Group Limited to deliver a customised in-house Diploma in Project Management - Level 5. The programme was designed to increase the management capability of twelve United Group Project Managers based throughout NewZealand. The majority of the participants were highly skilled technical managers with a background in trades and onsite management, but lacked formal training in Project Management.
A nine day programme was customised to reinforce some of the key processes and deliverables commonly used in United Group projects. The key areas of focus included risk management, work package estimating and budgeting, procurement management and project control. A single-day
Microsoft Project Management Lab day was also included to focus on the IT side of Project Management. NZIM Northern and United Group are working towards building a long-term relationship and creating a formal Professional Development Framework for future Project Managers.
